1. Fall prevention and aging in place

Falls are a leading cause of injury and death among older adults, with significant personal and financial impact, and the upcoming session will provide essential tools—such as home safety modifications, balance exercises, and recovery techniques—to help individuals prevent falls and age safely and confidently in their own homes.

  • About: Falls are a significant concern for older adults. In 2017, 1 in 4 adults aged 65 and over reported a fall, leading to over 28,000 deaths (approximately 74 per day) and more than 300,000 hospitalizations. The financial burden of these falls is substantial, reaching around $50 billion annually, with an average cost of about $30,000 per fall.
    During our information session, you’ll learn practical tools and strategies to help prevent falls and support successful aging in your own home. We will discuss home safety modifications for balance, the benefits of Physical Therapy, available local and national resources, balance assessment methods, and effective exercises for fall prevention. Additionally, we will cover the best techniques for getting up safely or calling for assistance if a fall does occur.
